Details on results:
The sample possesses surface active properties and this is confirmed by the surface tension result. As per EC recommendation, an estimate based on calculation or individual n-octanol and water solubilities should be provided for surface active materials. The above results were obtained by testing the sample to determine the individual solubility of the sample in each phase. Individual solubilities were determined by UV spectrophotometer analysis at 223nm; where the active ingredient, xylene sulphonate, was seen to absorb. The result is therefore based on the water solubility of the active ingredient unless the test material is an isomeric mixture or has other components which absorb around the same UV wavelength.
