Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to
Guideline:
EU Method A.12 (Flammability (Contact with Water))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. certificate)

Test Results: Initial Tests

No gas generation or spontaneous ignitions were observed during any of the tests.

Test Information: Final Test

10 g of the sample was charged to a round bottom flask which was connected to a pressure equalised dropping funnel containing 20 ml of water and an automated gas burette system. The water was then added rapidly to the flask. The rate and quantity of gas generated was measured for 1 hour or until the gas generation had ceased. The test was conducted three times.

Test Results: Final Test

No spontaneous ignitions were observed during any of the tests. The gas generated was not tested for flammability.

Executive summary:

No spontaneous ignitions were observed during any of the tests. The gas generated was not tested for flammability.

Endpoint:
flammable solids

If the burning time in the preliminary screening test is less than 4 minutes (40 minutes for metal powders), over a 200 mm distance, then the full range of burning rate tests are carried out unless no propagation is observed, otherwise no further testing is required.

Results of Preliminary Screening Test

Rate of burning (over 200 mm) : > 240 seconds

From the preliminary screening test the sample was seen to burn in a time > 4 minutes and therefore no further testing is required.

Interpretation of results:
other: Not highly flammable
Executive summary:
