Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 30-min and the 3-hour EC50 of the structural analogue of the subtance were found to be greater than 1000 mg/L.
The 30-min and the 3-hour NOEC of the structural analogue of the subtance were found to be greater or equal than 1000 mg/L.

Additional information

No data on the toxicity to microoganisms of the substance is available. The results from the structural analogue are used instead (for details see reporting Format as attached to section 13 in the IUCLID dossier).

One study on the assessment of the inhibitory effect of the structural analogue Reaction mass of tetrasodium phosphonoethane-1,2-dicarboxylate and hexasodium-phosphonobutane-1,2,3,4-tetracarboxylate on the respiration of activated sewage sludge is available. The method followed that described in the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals (1984) No. 209 and the test was performed according to the GLP. Therefore, this study is considered as reliable without restriction.

The respiration rate of an activated sludge of a predominantly domestic sewage was measured after contact times of 30 minutes and 3 hours with the test material of a concentration of 1000 mg/L. The inhibitory effect of the test material was determined by comparison with the respiration rate of two controls.

After 30 minutes of contact no inhibition was observed and after 3 hours of contact 12 -14% of inhibition was observed. Therefore, the 30 -min and 3-hr EC50 for the test material to activated sludge were greater than 1000 mg /L.

The NOEC values are not reported in the test report. As the inhibition of the respiration rates observed was below than the accepted variation of the respiration rates of the controls in the guideline, it can be concluded that no significant inhibition of the respiration rate was observed at the tested concentration. Therefore, the 30 -min and 3-hour NOEC of Reaction mass of tetrasodium phosphonoethane-1,2-dicarboxylate and hexasodium-phosphonobutane-1,2,3,4-tetracarboxylate were found to be greater or equal than 1000 mg/L.

The validity criteria of the OECD TG were fulfilled.
