Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

MPKO, the major hydrolysis product of OS1600, has low toxicity to algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

One study on the freshwater alga (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata), performed according to the OECD Guideline 201 is available. This study evaluated the toxicity of MPKO during a 72h exposure. Algae were exposed to a control medium and a medium containing 5.6, 10, 18, 32, 56, and 100 mg/L MPKO (nominal). Measured concentrations ranged from 92% to 100% of nominal and are expressed as nominal concentrations. Samples were taken at 0, 24, 48 and 72 hrs to determine cell density. Based on the results it could be concluded that the substance, MPKO, had an inhibitory effect with regard to growth of (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) at >=56 mg/L.

In conclusion, the EyC50 (biomass) was 50 mg/L MPKO and the ErC50 (growth rate) was 88 mg/L MPKO. The NOEC for both biomass and growth rate was 32 mg/L MPKO.
