Acute toxicity studies are available for all three relevant trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae). Two tests on the acute toxicity to fish are available. Both studies demonstrate a low toxicity of the test substance to fish. The lowest 96h LC50 value of 330 mg/L was determined in a study with Pimephales promelas. The test was performed under EPA guideline under GLP conditions (Waggy, 1992). Three studies investigated the acute toxicity of the test substance to aquatic invertebrates. The lowest 48h EC50 for Daphnia magna was determined to be 31.1 mg/L, according to an EC guideline under GLP (Balk and Meuwsen, 1989). The lowest effect concentration was determined for aquatic algae in a study conducted according to OECD 201 with an EC10 (72 h) value of 1.34 mg/L (Van Ginkel et al., 1990).

One long-term toxicity study on aquatic invertebrates is available. The test was conducted according to OECD 202 part II. Daphnia magna were exposed to the test substance for 21 days in a semi-static test system. After 21 days an EC50 of 10 mg/L (nominal) based on the reproduction rate was determined. The EC10(21 d) of 1.9 mg/L was re-calculated based on the raw data. An EC50 (2 h) of 15.7 mg/L was determined in a study testing the respiration inhibition in nitrifying bacteria. The determined NOEC (2 h) was 1.3 mg/L
