Description of key information

UNOXOL(TM) 3,4 Dialdehyde does not contain chemically unstable or highly energetic groups like those mentioned in table R.7.1-28 (ECHA Guidance, 2008). Therefore the substance is determined to be not explosive.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The test substance reacts with oxygen to its diacid. Both the structures of the original compounds and the reaction products were taken into account and do not contain any chemically instable or highly energetic groups that might lead to an explosion. From this, it was concluded that UNOXOL(TM) 3,4 Dialdehyde and its reaction products are not explosive.

This is valid both for UNOXOL(TM) 3,4 Dialdehyde Purified Grade (Heptanes content < 0.1% wt) and for UNOXOL(TM) 3,4 Dialdehyde Crude Grade (Heptanes content ca. 6.0 %wt).

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to information supplied by the sponsor, the test substance reacts with oxygen to its diacid. Both the structures of the original compounds and the reaction products were taken into account and do not contain any chemically instable or highly energetic groups that might lead to an explosion (like those mentioned in table R.7.1-28 - ECHA Guidance, 2008). From this, it was concluded that UNOXOL™ 3,4 Dialdehyde and its reaction products are not explosive.
