Description of key information

Only 2 short reports are available. They indicate a low toxicity of melamine to terrestrial plants. A request to waive the plant toxicity study is submitted.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Koch 1986: The toxicity to plants (root growth reduction) was determined after 96 hours of exposure of barleyn wheat and radish to Melamine. The EC50 was ca. 530 mg/L groundwater and above.

Jansen 1982: The toxicity of melamine (in Melafslik) was tested in peas and beans. The toxicity limit was at ca. 170 mg/kg soil.

No key value is reported above, as the result of Koch 1986 refers to groundwater and not to soil, and the result described as "toxicity limit" in the study of Jansen 1982 can not be related to an ECxx. A request to waive the plant toxicity study is submitted.
