Endpoint:
boiling point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From February 19, 2008 to May 14, 2008
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 103 (Boiling Point)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.2 (Boiling Temperature)
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry
Remarks on result:
other: Reaction and/or decomposition of Everzol Red CDN Crude was observed at temperatures of >250°C (>523K) and Everzol Red CDN Crude has no boiling temperature.

In Preliminary test:

Between 50°C and 225°C it was observed that the weight of the sample approximately 7% decreased. From 275°C the weight of the sample decreased significantly. At 393°C the sample weight had decreased by 25 %. After the experiment, a coalesced black powder remained in the sample container.

In Main study:

1st experiment:

An endothermic peak between 75°C and 200°C was observed. Between 250°C and 325°C a strong exothermic effect was found. After the experiment, a slightly coalesced, black powder remained in the sample container.

2nd experiment:

A closed sample container was used to investigate the evaporation peak between 75 °C and 200°C. The onset and maximum of the peak was shifted to higher temperatures. At temperature between 250°C and 325°C a similar exothermic effect as by the first experiment was observed. After the experiment, a coalesced black powder remained in the sample container.

Conclusions:
According to OECD 103 and EC Method A.2, Everzol Red CDN Crude has no boiling temperature.
Executive summary:

This test using the procedures outlined in the NOTOX Study Plan for 487467, OECD 103 and EC Method A.2. Reaction and/or decomposition of Everzol Red CDN Crude was observed at temperatures of >250°C (>523K) and boiling of the test substance was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started. Therefore, Everzol Red CDN Crude has no boiling temperature.

Description of key information

Everzol Red CDN Crude has no boiling temperature (OECD TG103 and EC Method A.2).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Between 75°C and 200°C, was observed, evaporation of a small frsction of Everzol Red CDN Crude found. Reaction and/or decomposition of Everzol Red CDN Crude was observed at temperatures of >250°C (>523K).
