Description of key information

The log partition coefficients for substances in the category Rosin, hydrogenated rosin and their salts range from 0.74 to >6.5.

The log partition coefficient of Rosin ranges from 3.0 to >6 (6.2) in unbuffered media at pH ca 6-7; in media adjusted to pH 2 log Pow range from 1.9 to >6 (7.7).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

GLP-compliant key and supprting studies conducted according to OECD Guideline 117 (HPLC method) were available for Rosin (Inveresk Research, 2003a; WQI, 1993a).

The wide range of partition coefficient values for Rosins is due to the chemical structures of the substances, as they are composed of ionisable organic acids. These substances are UVCB mixtures and therefore can exhibit more than one peak and log Kow value.
