Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Soybean oil, epoxidised is considered to be readily biodegradable. This was proven in a study conducted by Dr. A.V. Schulthess in 1988 using OECD 301B guideline:

A ready biodegradability test was conducted on Soybean oil, epoxidised using bacteria from a sewage treatment plant. Aniline was used as a reference substance.

After 28 days:

The biodegradation calculated as percentage of measured amount of CO2 over the theory was:

10 mg test substance/L = 79 % in 28 days

20 mg test substance/L = 92 % in 28 days

Therefore, Soybean oil, epoxidised is readily biodegradable.

According to the REACH guidelines no further Environmental Fate studies are required as Soybean Oil, epoxidised in considered to be readily biodegrable.
