Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A 72-hour EC50 of >118 mg/l and a NOEC of ≥118 mg/l have been determined for the effects of a read-across substance (Dimethylsilanediol; CAS No. 1066-42-8) on growth rate of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data for toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria are available for dichloro(dimethyl)silane. However a study of toxicity to algae is available for the related substance dimethylsilanediol. Dichloro(dimethyl)silane, CAS 75-78-5, hydrolyses to dimethylsilanediol, CAS 1066-42-8. The hydrolysis half-life of dichloro(dimethyl)silane (<<1 min at pH 7 and 25°C) indicates that, under conditions relevant to ecotoxicity assessment, it will hydrolyse to dimethylsilanediol. The other hydrolysis product is hydrogen chloride. Effects of hydrogen chloride on aquatic organisms are limited to those that result from changes to pH in unbuffered media and are discussed in the endpoint summary: ecotoxological discussion, consideration of the non-silanol hydrolysis product.
