Description of key information

A 7 day short-term chronic toxicity test was conducted with ethylbenzene and the freshwater invertebrate, Ceriodaphnia dubia following US EPA
guidelines with modifications to prevent volatilzation of the test material. The reported test results included a 7-d LC50 value of 3.6 mg/L and a NOEL of 1.0 mg/L (0.96 mg/L).

Additional information

Following the U.S. EPA 600/4-91-003EPA guideline, toxicity of ethylbenzene to Ceriodaphnia dubia was determined. The testing guideline was modified to included sealed vessels to prevent volitalization of the test material resulting in a Klimisch score of 2 for this study. Test concentrations were: 0.64, 0.96, 1.7, 3.5 and 5.31 mg/L . Under the conditions of the study, the IC50 value for reproduction was 3.3 mg/L (2.7-3.7 mg/l) and the 7d LC50 for mortality was 3.6 mg/L (3.1-4.3 mg/l). The 7d NOEL and LOEL were determined to be 0.96 mg/L and 1.7 mg/L, respectively.
