The substance is predicted to possess a 14-day LC50 in freshwater fish of 2138 mg/L, and the substance has been shown to possess a 48-hour EC50 in Daphnia magna of 165 mg/L.

The substance has been shown to possess a 21-day LOEC of greater than 100 mg/L in Daphnia magna, and a 72-hour NOEC of 100 mg/L in green algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus).

The substance has demonstrated a 3-hour EC50 of 21000 mg/L for activated sludge inhibition.

Long-term aquatic toxicity testing is not required, as diethylether is highly volatile and consequently will volatalise from the aqueous compartment to air rather quickly, where it becomes abiotically degraded through hydroxy-radical attack with a half-life of less than a day. In addition, diethylether does not show high potential for bioaccumulation.
