Description of key information

In accordance with ECHA (2008) Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, chapter R7a: endpoint specific guidance, the vapour pressure study does not need to be conducted as this substance has a boiling point less than 30°C, and therefore will have a vapour pressure above the limit of measurement (10E+05 Pa).

No vapour pressure data were available for any of the streams in this category. However, as the category main consists of C4 hydrocarbons, data were read across from the hydrocarbon C4 substances. The vapour pressure at 25°C was determined to be 484-1100 kPa for butene (results for but-1-ene and but-2-ene), 1160 kPa for isobutene, 677 kPa for butane and 1750 kPa for isobutane. The values have been extrapolated from results at lower temperatures. No information on the methods used is available but this information is taken from a reliable, peer-reviewed handbook (Lide 2008) and is considered reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint. The mean of the vapour pressure values for the category is 963 kPa at 25°C and this has been used to complete the 'key value for chemical safety assessment'.
