Conclusion on classification

Aquatic compartment

Not all of identified test data on TDCO are considered acceptable for determining PNEC values or for setting an environmental classification. Only the acceptable data have been used for the purposes of determining a PNECaquatic.

Test data

The lowest values available for the preferred end points are as follows:

Acute toxicity to fish: 96hr LC50 = 1.1 mg/L

Acute toxicity to invertebrates: 48hr EC50 = 3.8 mg/L

Acute toxicity to algae: 72hr ErC50 = 4.6 mg/L

Chronicc toxicity to fish (6 months growth and reproduction test): 6m NOECweight = 2 µg/L

Chronic toxicity to invertebrates (21day repro test):  21day NOECreproduction = 0.5 mg/L

Chronic toxicity to algae: 72hr ErC10 = 2.3 mg/ L (NOEC >1.2 mg/L)

Toxicity to WWTP micro-organisms: EC50 = >10000 mg/L

 

 

PNECaquatic

Fish were marginally more susceptible to TDCP in the acute tests than the invertebrate,Daphnia magna, and the two species of algae. Long-term data for the fish D.rerio showed that fish were several orders of magnitude more sensitive than invertebrates/algae when exposed chronically.

Based on this data TDCP has been classified as H410: Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. (Aq.Chronic Cat.1).

As TBCP is not considered as rapidly biodegradable, a chronic M-factor of 10 is applicable.

Additional information for the terrestrial compartment

The lowest toxicity values (corrected, where appropriate, for standardised organic matter content of 3.4% and a conversion factor of 1.13 for transforming results from a dry weight to wet weight basis) are as follows:

Acute toxicity to earthworms (Eisenia foetida)14d LC50 = 26 mg/kg dw = 23 mg/kg ww

The data set includes acceptable results from three long-term tests with species from at least three trophic levels.
