Description of key information

Four different batches of AZDN were assessed for explosiveness property using EU Method A14. The substance was thermally sensitive when heated under defined confinement (diameter of the orifice2.0mm) one explosion was observed in one test.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

All four batches of AZDN tested were sensitive in the thermal and shock sensitivity tests and hence AZDN is considered to present a danger of explosion. However in the sensitivity tests, the test substance was not compared to m-dinitrobenzene.

Justification for classification or non-classification

AZDN was classified as explosive (R2) according to Directive 67/548/EEC, but Self-reactive type C according to EC Regulation 1272/2008.
