4-Hydroxy TEMPO was tested for short-term toxicity to fish in a 96 h-semistatic test according to EU-method C.1 and OECD guideline 203. A LC50 of 545 mg/L was assessed.

4-Hydroxy TEMPO was tested for acute toxicity to aquatic freshwater invertebrates in a 48 h-static test according to EU-method C.2 and OECD guideline 202. The EC50 was assessed at 54 mg/L.

4-Hydroxy TEMPO was tested for reproductive toxicity to Daphnia in a 21 day semistatic test according to OECD guideline 202 Part II which was in accordance to the EU draft method C.20. The NOEC was determined at 1.5 mg/L and the LOEC at 4.5 mg/L.

4-Hydroxy TEMPO was tested for toxicity to algae in a 72 h-static test according to EU-method C.3 and OECD guideline 201. The EC50 based on growth rate was assessed at 1038 mg/L. The overall NOEC was determined at 22 mg/L.

4-Hydroxy TEMPO was tested for toxicity to microorganisms in a 16 hours toxicity to Pseudomonas putida test according to DIN 38412. An EC50 of 890 mg/L and an EC10 of 430 mg/L was assessed.
