Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Principles of method if other than guideline:
The substance under test is placed in an oven (Grewer oven) at room temperature; the temperature/time curve relating to conditions in the centre of the sample is recorded while the temperature of the oven is increased to 400 °C, or to the melting point if lower. The temperature of the oven at which the sample temperature reaches 400 °C by self-heating is called the self-ignition temperature. Testing in the Grewer oven is a screening procedure for self-heating substances.

Any other information on results incl. tables

No exothermal event, only the endothermal melting at 170 °C was observed.

Testing in the "Grewer oven" is a screening procedure for "self-heating substances". If T(onset) >= 220 °C (or no exothermal onset is detectable because of melting) testing according to UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th Edition, 2009 is not required.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Adipic acid dihydrazide has no self-ignition and no self-heating properties.
Executive summary:

A screening test in the "Grewer oven" for possible self-heating properties was performed.

No exothermal event, only the endothermal melting at 170 °C was observed.

If the onset temperature for exothermic reactions is >= 220 °C or no exothermal onset is detectable because of melting, no further testing according to UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th Edition, 2009 is required.
