Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A study was performed to assess the effect of the test material on the growth of the green alga, Scenedesmus subspicatus. The method followed that described in the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals (1984) No .210, “Algal Growth Inhibition Test” referenced as Method C.3 of commission Directive 92/69/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC). The EC50 value was greater than 100 mg/L. Correspondingly the No Observed Effect Concentration was 100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The study demonstrated that neither the growth nor the biomass of Scenedesmus subspicatus were affected by the presence of the test material over the 72-h exposure period.

The cell concentration of the control cultures increased by a factor of 99 after 72 hours, in line with the OECD Guideline, which states that the enhancement must be at least by a factor of 16 after 72 h. There were no statistically significant differences (P ≥ 0.05) between the control and the 100 mg/L test group. The EC50 was therefore > 100 mg/L and the No Observed Effect Concentration was 100 mg/L.
