Acutely toxic to aquatic algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Two tests on acute algae toxicity are available. In the first study the EC50 on the growth rate of Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined to be 34.23 mg/L according to german national guideline DIN 38412 L9. The EC10 value was found to be 16.05 mg/L (BASF AG 2/1705/88, 1989). The second test was performed by Chen et al. (2011) using Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata in static non-GLP non-guideline approach. In this test the EC50 was estimated to be 9.5 mg/L while the EC10 resulted in 0.35 mg/L.

Although the literature study seems to be of a slightly lower validity than the BASF guideline test the results were taken into account for further assessment (PNEC derivation, classification and labeling) due to product safety reasons.
