Half-life for reaction with hydroxyl radicals predicted to be 46 hours with 100 % degradation found to take place over 33 days in a separate experiment (weight of evidence from published data)

The rate constant for indirect photolysis was calculated to be 8.36 x 10-12 cubic cm/molecule*sec using the AOPWIN program. The calculated half-life of 46 hours was confirmed by a second prediction, which considered the half-life to be approximately 2 days in an atmosphere containing 5 x 105 hydroxyl radicals per cubic centimetre and stated the rate constant as 7.854 x 10-12 cubic cm/molecule*sec. These data were supported by experimental evidence showing 100 % degradation after 33 days when oxygen was bubbled through liquid methacrylonitrile and the vapours were mixed.
