PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

According to REACH Annex XIII and as laid down in the TGD R.11 of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), data indicate that 2-methylglutaric acid does not fulfill:

- the screening criteria for persistent substances (P) nor very persistent substances (vP) as it is readily biodegradable according to OECD Test Guideline 301D,

- the screening criteria for bioaccumulative substances (B), nor very bioaccumulative substances (vB), as its log Kow is below 4.5,

- the screening criteria for toxic substances (T) as:

* no long-term NOEC or EC10 below 0.01 mg/L were reported for marine or freshwater organisms, and;

* the criteria for classification as carcinogenic (category 1A or 1B), germ cell mutagenic (category 1A or 1B), or toxic for reproduction (category 1A, 1B or 2) according to the CLP Regulation are not met, and;

* there is no other evidence of chronic toxicity, as identified by the substance meeting the criteria for classification: STOT RE 1, or STOT RE 2 according to the CLP Regulation.

Thus, 2-methylglutaric acid is not a PBT/vPvB substance.
