Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Ready Biodegradability of FAT 40858/A TE in a Manometric Respirometry Test
Inherent Biodegradability of FAT 40858/A TE in a Zahn-Wellens/EMPA Test

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Ready Biodegradability:

The criterion for ready biodegradability under the conditions of a manometric respirometry test is the 10-day window, describing the period between reaching at least 10% degradation and 60% degradation. This period should not exceed 10 days.

The mean biodegradation after 28 days of FAT 40858/A TE was 0% (ThODNH4) and 0% (ThODNO3); the 10 day window criterion was not passed.

Therefore, FAT 40858/A TE is considered not to be readily biodegradable.

Inherent Biodegradability:

Under the test conditions no biodegradation (-164%) of FAT 40858/A TE occurred after 28 days of incubation. Since the percentage biodegradation is not within 20 - 70 % based on DOC, the test item can be estimated not to be inherently biodegradable. Negative biodegradation values were calculated due to total recovery of the DOC of the test material and also additional DOC from the sludge inoculum showing absolute no biodegradation by the sludge bacteria.

The reference item Diethylene glycol was completely degraded to 102% after 14 days, and to 106% after 28 days of incubation, thus confirming the suitability of the used activated sludge inoculum.
