Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The acute toxic to the freshwater aquatic alga (72h-ErC50 Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) was determined at 39 mg/L (nominal concentration, GLP OECD 201, static exposure), while the NOEC war determined at 0.81 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
39 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.81 mg/L

Additional information

Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were exposed to six concentrations of 3- amino-4 -octanol between 0.24-100 mg/L and evaluated for effects on cell density, area under the growth curve and growth rate. Effects are estimated based on nominal test concentrations, since measurements of the test concentrations showed that Octanolamine was stable over the course of the study. Biomass was the most sensitive endpoint, however effects are reported, as indicated in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment: Chapter R. 7B: Endpoint specific guidance”, for the preferred observational endpoint: the growth rate at 72h. The 72-growth rate EC50 and NOEC were 39 mg/L 0.81 mg/L.
