Slight conjunctival redness (grade 1) were observed one hour after instillation. Within the first 24 hours the symptoms became milder (redness grade 1, at 2/6 animals). Within 48 hours the majority of the animals did not show effects any longer.

Within 72 hours all animals were free from irritation.

The cornea and iris were not affected at all

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test article, when instilled into the conjunctival sac as supplied, produced conjunctival irritation in 6/6 albino rabbit eyes. No conjunctival irritation was observed in any of the test animals by the 72 hour reading. No corneal opacity or iritis was noted during the observation period.
Piperonyl Butoxide does not classify as an eye irritant.
