Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Testing the hydrolysis of the registered substance was technically not feasible. Rapid hydrolysis of Y-15866 is expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The test item is a reaction product of 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol with ethenyltrimethoxysilane, resulting in a complex mixture of different components. Most of these components contain the Si-O-C functional group. This group is known to be hydrolytically unstable at the Si-OC bond. This is in agreement with the results of the Harlan study C76302 (water solubility), where a fast hydrolysis reaction in water was observed visually and by GPC (Weissenfeld, 2010). Since it is stated in the OECD 111 guideline that the testing is only applicable to substances with a purity of >95% and if a sufficient accurate and sensitive analytical method is available for the test item at less than half the maximum water solubility. Since this is not the case, no experimental hydrolysis test according to OECD 111 could be performed for Y-15866 (Habeck, 2011).
