In a preliminary study at 50°C, the test substance degraded rapidly at all pH values. Also, degradation half-life decreased with increasing temperature at pH7.

Conclusions:
Under the test conditions, the test substance was subject to hydrolysis at pH 7, 24.1°C (into DEA-AA and TPG).
Executive summary:

A study was performed to determine the hydrolysis potential of the test substance at pH 4, 7 and 9 using GC and LC-MS analytical methods.

In a preliminary study at 50°C, the test substance degraded rapidly at all pH values. Further, degradation half-life decreased with increasing temperature at pH 7. At 25°C, the half-life was 104 d at pH 4, 11 h at pH 7 and < 1 h at pH 9.

The degradation products were diethyl amino propionic acid (DEA-AA) and tripropylene glycol (TPG).

Description of key information

A study was performed to determine the hydrolysis potential of the test substance at pH 4, 7 and 9 using GC and LC-MS analytical methods. In a preliminary study at 50°C, the test substance degraded rapidly at all pH values. Further, degradation half-life decreased with increasing temperature at pH 7. At 25°C, the half-life was 104 d at pH 4, 11 h at pH 7 and < 1 h at pH 9. This corresponds to a half-life of 1.3 d at 12°C (pH 7). The degradation products were diethyl amino propionic acid (DEA-AA) and tripropylene glycol (TPG) (Parent, 2007).

Key value for chemical safety assessment
