Description of key information
If released to the environment the main compartment of distribution of MOVE 3 is expected to be the atmosphere.
MOVE 3 is anticipated to not undergo to significant biotic degradation in any of the environmental compartments.
Hydrolysis is not a relevant mechanism of abiotic degradation for this substance. No information are available on the potential abiotic degradation processes in the atmosphere.
No experimental data are available regarding the bioaccumulation potential of MOVE3, however basing on the environmental distribution of the substance bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms is expected to be limited by the fact that no significant amount of MOVE3 will distribute in water. Moreover, it is not expected to be significantly bioaccumulable in air-breathing organisms as high volatily from octanol was observed indicating that in a system organic matter-air MOVE 3 would rather distribute to the atmosphere.
Additional information
MOVE 3 is a low boiling liquid (BP = 19.5°C), with a limited water solubility and high vapour pressure. The Henry Law’s constant is therefore extremely high - calculated to be between 3.6 - 9.4 x 10E6 Pa m3/mol at 20°C - indicating that the product has a high tendency to quickly volatilize from water reaching the atmospheric compartment.
No measurements or reliable estimations of Koc are available. However during the experimental determinations and analytical developments rapid volatilization of MOVE3 from octanol was observed. As the partition coefficient octanol-water provides indications on the tendency of a substance to adsorb to organic matter it can be concluded that in a system organic matter-air MOVE3 would not have significant tendency to distribute to organic phase and it would rather distribute to air.
The main environmental compartment of distribution is therefore anticipated to be the atmosphere and no significant distribution of MOVE3 to water, soil and sediment is expected.
Because of the fluorinated structure, no significant biological degradation is expected in any of the environmental compartments. Moreover MOVE3 is not anticipated to undergo to hydrolysis is water. No data of abiotic degradation in the atmosphere are available.
No exact Kow value and no experimental data of bioaccumulation are available. However, the bioaccumulation potential in aquatic organisms is expected to be limited by the fact that no significant amount of MOVE3 will distribute in water, if released to the environment. For the same reason, the standard bioaccumulation study on aquatic organisms through water exposure is anticipated to be not feasible as a stable concentration of the substance in water has been observed to be very difficult to obtain.
Moreover,MOVE 3 is not expected to be significantly bioaccumulable in air-breathing organisms as high volatily from octanol was observed indicating that in a system organic matter-air MOVE 3 would rather distribute to the atmosphere.
