BAM Fallhammer test:

The test item sample did not exhibit a reaction at 40 J. The test result is therefore considered as negative.

Koenen Tube test:

The sample did not exhibit an explosion during any of the tests. The test result is therefore considered as negative

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test item is not considered to possess explosives properties according to GHS Criteria.
Executive summary:

The explosive properties of 1,2-dichloro-1-[difluoro(trifluoromethoxy)methoxy]-1,2,2-trifluoroethane have been assessed in a GLP study conducted according to a recognized guideline (EU Method A.14).

As requested by the guideline followed two tests have been performed on the liquid test item: BAM Fallhammer (mechanical sensitivity to shock) test and Koenen tube (thermal sensitivity).

Based on the results obtained in these tests, the test item is not considered to possess explosives properties. The test item is not classified as GHS criteria are not met.

Description of key information

One reliable key study (Klimisch 1) is available.

In the study the explosive properties of the test item was assessed according to a recognised guideline (EU Method A.14) under GLP.

No deviations from the guideline were observed during the study.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

As requested by the guideline followed two tests have been performed on the liquid test item: BAM Fallhammer (mechanical sensitivity to shock) test and Koenen tube (thermal sensitivity).

1,2-dichloro-1-[difluoro(trifluoromethoxy)methoxy]-1,2,2-trifluoroethane did not exhibit explosive properties during any of the tests. Therefore the test item is not considered as explosives and is not classified.

Justification for classification or non-classification

1,2-dichloro-1-[difluoro(trifluoromethoxy)methoxy]-1,2,2-trifluoroethane did not exhibit explosive properties during any of the tests. Therefore the test item is not considered as explosives and is not classified.
