- GLP compliance:
- yes
Test material
- Reference substance name:
- Nickel, compound with Titanium (1:1)
- EC Number:
- 610-765-8
- Cas Number:
- 52013-44-2
- Molecular formula:
- NiTi
- IUPAC Name:
- Nickel, compound with Titanium (1:1)
- Details on test material:
- 100% Equiatomic NiTi intermetallic compound
Batch 1048
Constituent 1
Sampling and analysis
- Analytical monitoring:
- yes
Test solutions
- Details on test solutions:
- The test item, was weight in order to obtain a stock solution of 10 g/l.
Then the stock solution was diluted in order to obtain the following nominal dilutions in water (max solubility): 3.13, 0.98, 0.31 and 0.095 g/l.
Because the test item is poorly soluble in water to facilitate its solubility the stock solution has been stirred for 90 hours and then, before the beginning of the test, this solution has been ultrasonicated for 30 minutes.
Test organisms
- Test organisms (species):
- Daphnia magna
- Details on test organisms:
- Breeding conditions:
Daphnie has been kept in reconstituted water.
Lightning: 16 hrs light, 8 hrs darkness
Water change: 3 times per week
Age < 24 hrs
No. of animals: 10 for each treated sample concentration - 10 for control sample
no. of animals/beaker: 1
No. of concentration: 5
60 daphnie have been used
Study design
- Test type:
- not specified
- Water media type:
- freshwater
- Total exposure duration:
- 21 d
- Post exposure observation period:
- The number of parent immobilised organisms and/or possible abnormal behaviours both in control and in treatment group vessel and the total number of living offspring produced per parent animal alive at the end of the test have been observed. The presence of aborted eggs or dead offspring have been recorded.
Ath the beginning and at three time/week (at every test medium renewal) dissolved oxygen and pH have been measured in control and in the highest tested concentration. Temperature of the water has been recorded.
Test conditions
- Hardness:
- < 250 mg CaCO3/l
- Test temperature:
- 20 +/- 2 °C
- pH:
- 6-9
- Dissolved oxygen:
- > 3 mg/l
- Salinity:
- As dilution water, reconstituted water has been used; it has been prepared dissolving the following salts in 1 liter of deionised water.
- Details on test conditions:
- Because the test has been done on the extract of the test item, constituted by metals with a low volatilisation from water to air, at the beginning and at the end of the test have been checked the concentrations of two metals (nichel and titanium) in the extract by ICP-OES.
- Reference substance (positive control):
- no
