Description of key information

The test substance dibutylmagnesium was examined in a acute growth inhibition test for alga according OECD Guideline 201.The growth inhibitory ratio of Chlorella sp. indicated that the EC50 (72h) was greater than highest tested nominal concentration of 100 mg/L. Highest nominal concentration is equivalent to analytical meassured 47.19 mg/L.

Additional information

This study was conducted to assess the acute toxicity of Dibutylmagnesium on single cell algae by observing acute inhibitory effects. The grow was observed and recorded at 24 h, 48 h and 72 h. Based on the results of preliminary test, the growth inhibitory ratio in solutions with 100 mg/L Dibutylmagnesium was 0.96% and below 50%, it was not necessary to conduct the definitive test.

Atomic absorption spectrometry of test solutions was used to generate standard curve to read substance concentration directly at the beginning and the end of test (c(48h)/c(0h) = 89.6%).

However, limit test with 3 replicates was carried out. The growth inhibitory ratio was -0.64% and indicated that the EC50 (72h) was greater than 100 mg/L, which is equivalent to measured 47.19 mg/L. Potassium dichromate was used as positive control. The calculated EC50 (72h) = 0.88 mg/L is in accordance with the accepted range of Guideline.
