Description of key information

No phytotoxic effects were observed in any of the six plant species tested. No statistical significant differences for plant weight were observed between the control and the tested plants. There is no phytotoxic potential up to a sulfur rate of 25.2 kg/ha (31.5 kg BAS 175 01 F/ha).

Additional information

A GLP study investigating the effects on non-target plants in the greenhouse (limit test) according to OECD guideline 208 and under GLP is available for assessment (BASF, 2000). Test species were: Corn (Zea mays variety: Dea); oat (Avena sativa variety: Flaemingsplus); onion (Allium cepa variety: Red Baron); cabbage (Brassica oleracea variety: Hammer); pea (Pisum sativum variety: Progress); and carrot (Daucus carota variety: Romosa).Test rates were: 10.5 kg/ha (equivalent to 8400 g a.s./ha) and 31.5 kg/ha (equivalent to 25200 g a.s./ha). The test substance was applied post emergence in the latest six weeks after seeding at growth stage BBCH (Biologische Bundesanstalt, Bundessortenamt and Chemical Industry)12 to 16 of the plants (depending on plant species). The application was doneusing a laboratory spray cabin which simulated an application in agricultural practice.Following the application, the plants were cultivated for 14 days in the greenhouse. Assessments for phytotoxicity (e.g. scorch, stunting, deformations) were done in approximately 7 days after application (DAA) and 14 DAA. After the 14 DAA assessment the fresh weight of the plant biomass above ground was determined.

 

No visible phytotoxic effects were observed in any of the plant species tested up to a sulfur rate of 25.2 kg/ha (31.5 kg BAS 175 01 F/ha). For all plant species the plant weight was at the same level as the weight of the control plants. No statistically significant differences to the control were observed.
