The short-term toxicity of the substance to aquatic invertebrates was determined in a study conducted in accordance with OECD guideline 202 and in compliance with GLP criteria (Safepharm Laboratories Ltd, 2007). In this study, Daphnia magna (2 replicates of 10 animals) were exposed to nominal test concentrations of 0 (control), 1.0, 1.8, 2.3, 5.6 and 10 mg/L for a period of 48 hours under static conditions. The immobility of daphnids was recorded after 24 and 48 hours exposure. Nominal test concentrations were analytically verified at the start and at the end of the test.Measured test concentrations at t=0h and t=48h were in the range of 87-104% of nominal values with the exception of the 1.0 and 1.8 mg/L test concentrations which showed measured values of 70% and 78% of nominal respectively for the 48-h old samples. As these concentrations were below the No Observed Effect Concentration of 3.2 mg/L it was considered not to have affected the outcome or validity of the study and thefore results are based on nominal test concentrations only. At the test concentrations of 5.6 mg/L and 10 mg/L cumulative immobilities were 85% and 100%, respectively. No immobility was observed at any of the lower tested concentrations. Based on these findings the 48-h EC50 was determined at 4.6 mg/L.
