Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

For the determination of the short-term toxicity of Tetradecylamine to aquatic invertebrates, three data are reported: one from a GLP guideline study on an analogous substance (Noack, 1994), one from a secondary source on the substance itself (US EPA ECOTOX, 2014) and one from a (Q)SAR prediction (Kovarich, 2014).

The short-term toxicity of Amines, coco alkyl (CAS 61788-46-3) to Daphnia magna was determined to be 0.09 mg/l in a GLP-compliant study conducted in accordance with OECD Guideline 202 (Noack, 1994). The result of this study is considered reliable with restrictions (Klimisch 2) and is used, by analogy, as key value for the assessment of Tetradecylamine. This data is by the way consistent with a Klimisch 4 data collected from a secondary source (US EPA ECOTOX, 2014) which reports a 48h-EC50 on Daphnia magna in the range 0.013-0.019 mg/l.

Besides, the toxicity of Tetradecylamine was estimated on the basis of adequate (Q)SAR predictions from scientifically valid model: ACD/Aquatic toxicity and ECOSAR (Kovarich, 2014). Although those models fulfil the characterisation criteria specified in the OECD Guidance Document on the validation of (Q)SAR models, the prediction results were disregarded as they were assessed to be unreliable or of low reliability (Klimisch 3).
