First-aid measures

General information:

Consult physician.

Observe self-protection

Remove contaminated or saturated clothing immediately and dispose of safely.

After inhalation:

Move victim to fresh air.

Put victim at rest and keep warm.

In case of irritation of the respiratory tract seek medical advice.

In case product dust is released:

Possible discomfort: severe irritation of mucous lining (nose, throat, eyes), cough, sneezing, flow of tears

Move victims into fresh air.

If breathing difficulties occur (e.g. severe continual coughing):

Keep patient half sitting with upper body raised.

Consult a physician immediately.

After contact with skin:

After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap.

In case of skin irritation, seek medical treatment.

After contact with eyes:

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of flowing water for 10 to 15 minutes holding eyelids apart.

Continue rinsing process with eye rinsing solution.

Protect unharmed eye.

Call ambulance.

Consult an opthalmologist.

Continue rinsing eye until arrival at ophthalmic hospital.

After ingestion:

No administration in cases of unconsiousness or cramps. Do not induce vomiting.

Rinse mouth immediately and drink large quantities of water. DEPENDS ON THE TIME AFTER EXPOSURE

Do not leave victims unattended.

Keep warm and in a quiet place.

In case of difficulties in breathing, supply oxygen.

Employ artificial respiration if breathing ceases.

No mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-nose artificial respiration. Use artificial respiration bag or respirator.

Place person on side in stable position if unconscious.

Notify ambulance immediately (keyword: poisoning by hydrogen sulphide I chemical burn).

Notes to physician

Following inhalation:

The release of hydrogen sulphide cannot be totally ruled out.

Formation of a toxic lung edema is possible if product continues to be inhaled despite acute irritative effect (e.g. if it is not possible to leave the danger area).

Symptoms may occur with delay.

Prophylaxis of a toxical lung oedema with inhalative steroids (Dexamethasone aerosol dosing spray, f.ex. auxilosone).

If substance has been swallowed:

Early endoscopy in order to assess mucosa lesions in the oesophagus and stomach which may appear.

If necessary, aspirate leftover substance.

The possible release of hydrogen sulphide in the gastrointestinal tract can lead to symptoms of hydrogen

sulphide poisoning.

Hydrogen sulphide:

Possible signs of poisoning: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, seizures, unconciousness, respiratory disturbance, cessation of breathing, cardiac arrest.

Treatment of symptoms, administration of oxygen, artificial respiration, treatment of arrhythmias, correction of acid-base balance.

The effectiveness of an antidote therapy (methaemoglobin generator) is disputed.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Sand. Extinguishing powder. Foam. Water spray. Atomized water

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons: Carbon dioxide (CO2). High power water jet.

Special exposure hazards arising from substance or preparation itself, combustion products, resulting gases: Sulfur oxides. Hydrogen sulphide (H2S).

Special protective equipment for  fire-fighters: In case of fire: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus, apparatus, (MSHAINIOSH approved or

equivalent) and full protective gear.

Additional information: Contaminated fire-fighting water must be collected separately. Do not empty into drains or the aquatic environment

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. Provide for sufficient ventilation and punctiform suction at

critical points.

Environmental precautions: Obey relevant local, state, provincial and federal laws and regulations. Do not empty into drains or the aquatic environment.

Methods for cleaning up/taking up: Pick up mechanically and collect in a suitable container.

Suitable absorbing material: Sand Kieselguhr.

Additional information: Collect in closed containers for disposal. Refer to manufacturer/supplier for information on recovery/recycling.

Handling and storage

Handling

Advice on safe handling:

In case of open handling equipment with built-in suction must be used.

It is recommended to organise all working processes in order to exclude the following: skin contact. Eye contact.

Working areas must be arranged in such a manner that they can be cleaned at all times.

Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.

In case of solids:

Formation of flammable or explosive dustlair mixtures possible.

Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Danger of explosion from residual product fumes; therefore avoid spark production through cutting,

grinding, or welding work in the area of the container.

Storage

Requirements for storage rooms and vessels: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Do not empty into drains or the aquatic environment.

Advice on storage compatibility: Do not store together with: acid.

Further information on storage conditions: Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs.
