Description of key information

The boiling point of the xylene isomers ranges from 138.2 to 144.5˚C at standard pressure. The boiling point of m-xylene is reported as 139.1˚C, for o-xylene as 144.5˚C and for p-xylene it is 138.2˚C.

The mean value is 141˚C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

141 °C

Additional information

Data was taken from the CRC Handbook (Lide, 2008) is a peer reviewed handbook and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. The data are supported by results from the Merck Handbook (O'Neil 2006), with m-xylene, o-xylene and p-xylene having boiling points of 139.3°C, 144°C and 137 -138°C, respectively.
