Description of key information

In vitro bioavailability studies in artificial body fluids were conducted with the test item niobium carbide.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Bioaccumulation potential:
low bioaccumulation potential

Additional information

The solubility of niobium carbide was determined in artificial body fluids (gastric fluid, interstitial fluid, lysosomal fluid and artificial perspiration). Results were reported as µg niobium/g sample and % niobium release/niobium content.

The bioavailability ranged from below the detection limit (2 and 24 hours, simulated gastric fluid) to 0.04 % (24 hours, simulated lysosomal fluid). Based on the results, the bioavailability of niobium carbide would be expected to be very low for all routes of administration.
