The solubility was determined using the flask method which is based on suspending of the test substance in the solvent until saturation is reached. However in the present case no saturation was reached after addition of approx. 520 mg substance to approx. 1 mL water. At this concentration the addition was finished and the solution was equilibrated at 20°C. The concentration of the solution was monitored by HPLC and the obtained concentrations were corrected by the density of the solution. The results are given in Table 1. The pH value of the aqueous solution was determined to be 8.6.

Averaging the values of both series of experiments gives the following water solubility at 20°C with 95 % confidence interval: S20°C > 546 g/L.

Conclusions:
The water solubility of the test item was determined using the flask method. At 20°C no saturation was reached and therefore only a lower limit for the solubility can be given: S20°C > 546 g/L. Consequently the substance is at least highly soluble according to USP (currently USP 25) and EP (currently EP 4th ed.).The pH value of the aqueous solution was 8.6.
