No experimental data evaluating the toxicity of 2,3-dihydroxypropyl laurate (CAS No. 142-18-7) is currently available. 2,3-dihydroxypropyl laurate can be considered as readily biodegradable (79.5% biodegradation after 28 days) based on suitable read-across data (see IUCLID section 5.2.1). According to the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R7.b (ECHA, 2008) “the assumption that the substance under investigation is not inhibitory to microorganisms when dosed in the test system is implicit in ready biodegradability testing (…). If a compound degrades well in a ready biodegradability test, or does not inhibit the degradation of a positive control at a certain concentration, this concentration can be used as a NOEC”. Considering the above information,2,3-dihydroxypropyl laurate is not expected to exert toxicity to microorganisms.
