Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Eyes: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Get medical advice/attention.
If on skin (or hair): Remove/take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
Inhalation: Move to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Seek medical attention/advice.
Ingestion: If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Get medical attention. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Fire-fighting measures
In case of fire: Dry chemical. Carbon dioixide (CO2). Water fog. Foam.
Special Hazards: May be ignited by heat, sparks or flames. Take precautionary measures against static discharge.
Unsuitable extinguishing media: Water jet.
Special Protective Equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing.
Other Fire Fighting Considerations: Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out.
Accidental release measures
Personal Precautions: Wear protective clothing and equipment during clean-up. An appropraite NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator should be used if a mist or vapor is generated.
Environmental Precautions: Dike flow of spilled material using soil or sandbags to minimize contamination of drains, surface and ground waters.
Methods for Cleaning Up: Absorb with earth, sand or other non-combustible material and transfer to containers for later disposal.
Methods for Containment: Ventilate the area. Eliminate all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flames in the immediate area).
Handling and storage
HANDLING
Use only non-sparking tools.
Ground/bond container and receiving equipment.
Take precautionary measures against static discharge.
Wear protective gloves/eye protection/face protection.
STORAGE
Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/hot surfaces-No smoking.
Keep container tightly closed.
Use explosion-proof electrical ventilating/lighting equipment.
Store in a cool, well-ventilated place.

Exposure controls / personal protection
General Precautions: Good industrial hygiene should be followed: Avoid breathing (heated) vapors. Avoid eye and skin contact.
Engineering Controls: Local exhaust is preferred. Mechanical may be necessary if working at elevated temperatures or in enclosed areas.
Eye: Use goggles or face shield with goggles, dependent upon potential exposure.
Skin: Nitrile gloves recommended. Wear protective gloves/eye protection/face protection.
Inhalation: No protection required for ambient temperature. An appropriate NIOSH/MSHA approved air-purifying respirator should be used if a mist or vapor is generated. A NIOSH/MSHA approved self-contained breathing apparatus or air-supplied respirator is recommended if the concentration exceeds the capacity of cartridge respirator.
Stability and reactivity
Stability: No decomposition if stored normally.
Conditions to Avoid: Reacts with strong base to produce methanol. Heat, sparks, flames and hot surfaces.
Materials to Avoid: Oxidizing agents.
Hazardous Polymerization: Does not occur.
Disposal considerations
Collect and reclaim or dispose in sealed containers at licensed waste disposal site. Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local/regional/national/international regulations.
