Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

General: remove the victim from the danger area. Show the specific MSDS to the physician. Treat symptomatically.
If inhaled: take the patient in the oper air. If breathing difficulties persist due to accidental inhalation of dust, aerosols or combustion fumes, provide oxygen or artificial respiration. In case of persistence of symptoms, seek medical assistance.
If in eyes: rinse cautiously and thoroughly with plenty of water. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do; continue rinsing. If irritation persist, seek medical assistance.
If on skin and clothes: remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash thoroughly with soap and water. Wash clothing before re-use
If ingested: rinse the mouth repeatedly with water without swallowing. Do not induce vomiting or administer anything without medical advice. Seek medical assistance.

Fire-fighting measures

General: avoid formation of dust clouds and prevent formation of electrostatic loading or contact with other ignition sources.
Extinguishing media: foam, water spray, carbon dioxide, chemical powder, Do not use water in proximity of electrical apparatus,
Danger in case of fire: possible evolution of toxic fumes of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, hydrochloric acid.
Protective device for fire-fighting people: protective device/clothing for eyes, head, hands and skin, self-contained breathing apparatus.
Fire-fighting water/media and fire residues must be disposed as hazardous waste, in compliance wit current Regulations.

Accidental release measures

General: do not allow presence of unprotected people in the area. Send away people not in charge to manage the issue. Wear proper PPE for eyes, skin and breathing apparatus.
Environmental: do not allow dispersed material to reach the sewers and watercourses.
Methods for cleaning up: use inert absorbents (sand, kieselgur...), collect mechanically the released material and dispose according to the hazardous waste handling procedures. Ventilate the area, if proper; if necessary, wash with water disposing the resulting liquid as hazardous waste.

Handling and storage

General: use only in closed system in SCC. Use localized exhaust during charging/discharging and sampling. Captured air, process emissions should be properly handled before immission in atmosphere (gaseous emissions purification system). The waste deriving from these activities should be considered hazardous and handled as such.
Store in well closed, leakproof containers in well ventilated, dedicated areas. As precautionary measure, protect from electostatic loading or other ignition sources, Avoid proximity of incompatible materials (strong acid and bases, oxidizing agents).
As additional, redundant protection measure, workers should wear proper PPE for skin, eyes, hands and breathing apparatus when handling the substance. Strictly follow directions for use, cleaning and maintenance reported by the supplier for each PPE. Wash accurately with water before re-use.

Exposure controls / personal protection

The substance is not transported outside the site; it is directly used in SCC for manufacturing the API Thioridazine hydrochloride.
A check of workers exposition to the substance is periodically carried out; qualified personnel evaluates results in order to implement furter protetctive measures, if proper.
PPE include equipment for protection of eyes (googles), hands (gloves), skin and breathing apparatus (mask).

Stability and reactivity

The substance is stable under normal conditions of use. It darkens if exposed to direct light.
Conditions to avoid: very high temperatures could origin decomposition with emission of toxic/irritating fumes. Thermal decomposition could result in emission of oxides of Carbon, Nitogen, Sulphur.
Materials to avoid: strong acids and bases and oxidizing agents.

Disposal considerations

Strictly observe all local, regional, national and international environmental Regulations. Waste deriving from handling and use of the substance should be considered as hazardous and disposed as such. Containers should be handled in the same way.
Disposal of wastes: keep in well closed containers and send wastes (including contaminated containers) to authorized companies for disposal.
