Vykdomasis direktorius vadovauja agentūrai ir administruoja jos veiklą (išskyrus Apeliacijos komisiją). Jis yra Europos cheminių medžiagų agentūros teisinis atstovas ir už savo veiklą atsiskaito ECHA valdančiajai tarybai.

Biografija

Geert Dancet tapo pirmuoju išrinktu Europos cheminių medžiagų agentūros (ECHA) vykdomuoju direktoriumi 2008 m. sausio mėn. Jam vadovaujant agentūra sėkmingai vadovavo visiems REACH ir CLP reglamentuose numatytiems reguliavimo procesams. ECHA tapo didele ES reguliavimo agentūra, kurioje dirba daugiau kaip 500 darbuotojų, atsakingų už ES cheminių medžiagų teisės aktų, taip pat Biocidų produktų ir IPS reglamentų, įgyvendinimą. 2012 m. jis buvo paskirtas antrai kadencijai, kuri baigsis 2017 m. gruodžio 31 d.

Europos Komisija 2007 m. sausio mėn. jį paskyrė laikinuoju vykdomuoju direktoriumi 2007 m. birželio 1 d. Helsinkyje planuojant įkurti agentūrą.

Nuo 2004 m. iki 2007 m. jis dirbo Europos Komisijos Įmonių ir pramonės generalinio direktorato REACH skyriaus vadovu. Skyrius buvo viena iš tarnybų, atsakingų už REACH pasiūlymo įgyvendinimą vykstant reguliavimo procesui Taryboje ir Europos Parlamente, taip pat už REACH įgyvendinimo strategijos, pagal kurią taip pat turėjo būti pasirengta įkurti naująją cheminių medžiagų agentūrą, rengimą ir koordinavimą.

G. Dancet pradėjo dirbti Europos Komisijoje 1986 m. ir daugiausia laiko išdirbo konkurencijos politikos srityje. Prieš tai G. Dancet trumpai dirbo Leveno universitete (Belgijoje) ir buvo Jungtinių Tautų Pramonės plėtros organizacijos (UNIDO) programos Kolumbijoje koordinatorius.

Belgijoje, Leveno Universitete studijavo ekonomiką, ekonometriją ir filosofiją. G. Dancet yra vedęs ir turi keturis vaikus.
