Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Alkenes C20-24 are considered to be readily biodegradable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

Alkenes with a carbon number range of C20 -24 have been found to be readily biodegradable in two biodegradation screening tests. After 28 days 92% biodegradation was observed in a modified Sturm test (Mead, 1998). All validity criteria were met so alkenes C20 -24 are readily biodegradable. This is supported by another modified Sturm test (Clarke, 2008), where 92% biodegradation was again observed after 28 days. The 10 day window was met in this study therefore the substance is considered readily biodegradable .
