Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance met the criteria for classification as "corrosive" since the substance in prolonged contact with moist skin or mucose membranes can liberate HCl. In the absence of further information, the substance is classified with the more conservative classification R35 Causes severe burns, according to Directive 2001/59/EC, Annex VI, 3.2.5.

Further classification with R41 Risk of serious damage to eyes is not applied, as it is implicit in the R35 classification (Annex VI, 3.2.6.2).

The substance is classified with the more conservative classification Skin Corrosion Category 1A (H314: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage), according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, Annex I, Part 3, 3.2.2.
