Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Dec 1996 - Jan 1997
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
GLP compliance:
yes
Other quality assurance:
ISO/IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories)
Key result
Parameter:
other: Differential Scanning Calorimetry
Remarks:
399 kJ/kg
Value:
399
Remarks on result:
negative (not further specified)

The determination of the thermal stability of the test substance by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) showed that between 30 °C and 400 °C the exothermal decomposition energy is about 399 kJ/kg and therefore below the limit of 500 kJ/kg for exclusion given in the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, Chapter 2.1.4.3.(c).

According to the chemical structure and the list of reactive groups that could have explosive properties (Bretherick´s Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards, Butterworths, 4thedition) it can be excluded that the test substance has explosive properties.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The substance is not considered an explosive, as concluded from the test results on:
1. Thermal sensitivity (effect of a flame)
2. Mechanical sensitivity (shock)
3. Mechanical sensitivity (friction)

It can be excluded that the substance has explosive properties.

Description of key information

It can be excluded that the substance has explosive properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is not considered an explosive, as concluded from the test results on:

1. Thermal sensitivity (effect of a flame)

2. Mechanical sensitivity (shock)

3. Mechanical sensitivity (friction)
