Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

INHALATION

Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Perform artificial respiration if breathing has stopped. Keep the affected person warm and at rest. Get prompt medical attention.

INGESTION

Rinse mouth thoroughly. Immediately give a couple of glasses of water or milk, provided the victim is fully conscious. If vomiting occurs, keep head low so that stomach content doesn't get into the lungs. Get medical attention if any discomfort continues.

SKIN CONTACT

Remove affected person from source of contamination. NOTE! Effects may be delayed. Keep affected person under observation. Promptly wash contaminated skin with soap or mild detergent and water. Promptly remove clothing if soaked through and wash as above. Get medical attention if irritation persists after washing.

EYE CONTACT

Dust in the eyes: Make sure to remove any contact lenses from the eyes before rinsing. Get medical attention promptly if symptoms occur after washing.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA

Water spray, fog or mist. Dry chemicals, sand, dolomite etc. Use fire-extinguishing media appropriate for surrounding materials.

SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES

Use pressurised air mask if product is involved in a fire.

UNUSUAL FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS

Dust may form explosive mixture with air. Can form dust clouds that may explode on contact with flames, heat and oxidisers.

SPECIFIC HAZARDS

Toxic gases/vapours/fumes of: Carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon monoxide (CO).

Accidental release measures

SPILL CLEAN UP METHODS

Avoid generation and spreading of dust. Avoid contact with skin or inhalation of spillage, dust or vapour. Extinguish all ignition sources. Avoid sparks, flames, heat and smoking. Ventilate. Collect powder using special dust vacuum cleaner with particle filter or carefully sweep into closed container. Containers with collected spillage must be properly labelled with correct contents and hazard symbol.

Handling and storage

USAGE PRECAUTIONS

Avoid handling which leads to dust formation. Use mechanical ventilation in case of handling which causes formation of dust. Transferring or mixing the powder can lead to the build up of electrostatic charge, which if discharged rapidly could cause ignition and explosion of a dust cloud. Static electricity and formation of sparks must be prevented.

STORAGE PRECAUTIONS

Ground container and transfer equipment to eliminate static electric sparks.

STORAGE CLASS

Chemical storage.

Exposure controls / personal protection

1. Technical protection measures

Use engineering controls to reduce air contamination to permissible exposure level.

2. Organisational protection measures

No specific ventilation requirements noted, but forced ventilation may still be required if air contamination exceeds acceptable level. Provide sufficient ventilation for operations causing dust formation.

3. Hand protection

Protective gloves must be used if there is a risk of direct contact or splash.

4. Feet protection

No specific protection recommended. Wear appropriate footwear to prevent any possibility of skin contact.

5. Body protection

Wear appropriate clothing to prevent any possibility of skin contact. Disposable impermeable overalls are recommended.

6. Eye protection

Wear splash-proof eye goggles to prevent any possibility of eye contact.

7. Respiratory protection

No specific recommendation made, but protection against nuisance dust must be used when the general level exceeds 10 mg/m³. Use specified dust masks. Wear dust masks in dusty areas.

8. General hygiene

Wash promptly if skin becomes contaminated. Change work clothing daily if contamination is reasonably probable. Promptly remove non-impervious clothing that becomes contaminated.

Stability and reactivity

STABILITY

Stable under normal temperature conditions.

Avoid: Heat, sparks, flames.

CONDITIONS TO AVOID

Avoid excessive heat for prolonged periods of time. Avoid dust close to ignition sources.

MATERIALS TO AVOID

Strong acids.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS

Fire creates: Carbon monoxide (CO). Carbon dioxide (CO2).

Disposal considerations

DISPOSAL METHODS

Dispose of waste and residues in accordance with local authority requirements. Do not allow runoff to sewer, waterway or ground.
