Boron Trifluoride is a colorless inorganic gas with a melting point of -126.8°C and a boiling point of -101°C. Its vapour pressure is 4874 kPa at 260K (CRC Handbook, 2000).

Boron Trifluoride gas has a density of 2.77 g/L at 25°C/1 atm (estimation based on the Ideal Gas Law).

A structural assessment indicates that BF3 does not have explosive properties nor oxidising properties.

As Boron Trifluoride is an inorganic gas, studies on granulometry, viscosity and stability in organic solvents are not required.

When release in the atmosphere boron trifluoride (BF3) molecules in contact with atmospheric humidity form a sort of complex: dihydrated boron trifluoride (BF3, 2H2O). On the opposite if BF3 is directly brought into contact with water, it reacts violently.

Due to the instability (rapid hydrolysis) of the substance in water, its water solubility wasn’t experimentally determined. Because, boron trifluoride (BF3) is an inorganic substance the octanol-water partition coefficient isn’t considered as a relevant parameter in order to assess its potential toxicity. As a consequence, no test was performed in order to estimate this parameter.
