Description of key information
The estimated log Kow values (KOWWIN v1.67) are -2.29 (NH4SCN) and -2.52 (NaSCN and KSCN). A worst case scenario of the thiocyanates category is represented by HSCN with an estimated log Kow value of 0.58.

Thiocyanates are inorganic, thus an experimental study to determine log Kow does not need to be conducted according to REACH Annex VII, Section 7.8. As a result an estimated log Kow value is provided for each category member.
The calculated log Kow value represents the neutral or unionized form. It should be noted that in the ionized form, the log Kow value is probably lower. The fragment constants used for estimating the log Kow value are derived from models with compounds in the log Kow range of 0 – 5. Estimations for log Kow values outside this range are generally less accurate. Despite this inaccuracy, the calculated log Kow value is in accordance with the high water solubility (> 1000 g/L at 200C) for the 3 compounds. The calculated log Kow is less than the bioconcentration threshold (log Kow = 3) indicating that ammonium, sodium and potassium thiocyanate are not expected to be susceptible to bioaccumulation.
