Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Three acute toxicity studies on algae, invertebrates and fish are available for the substance:

Short-term toxicity to fish, conducted according to OECD Guideline no. 203 and GLP, with test substance toluene-4-sulphonohydrazide and test organism ricefish (Oryzias latipes), showed a 96hr-LC50 (95% confidence limits) value expressed in terms of the time-weighted mean concentration of 3.21mg/L (2.29-4.50mg/L).
To assess the acute toxicity of toluene-4-sulphonohydrazide a study according to OECD Guideline No. 202 was conducted. The 48hr-EC50 value (95% confidence limits) expressed in terms of the time-weighted mean concentration of toluene-4-sulphonohydrazide to Daphnia magna were determined to 2.71 mg/L (2.41-3.06 mg/L) and NOEC was 1.12 mg/L. mg/L) and NOEC was 1.12 mg/L.
The growth inhibition effects of Toluene-4-sulphonohydrazide was assessed according to OECD Guideline No. 201. The test resulted in 72-hr EC50 values (95% confidence limits) expressed in terms of the geometric mean measured concentration of Toluene-4-sulphonohydrazide to Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were 10.2 mg/L (9.67-10.5 mg/L) for average growth rate and 3.07 mg/L (1.94-3.74 mg/L) for yield. The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) and Lowest Observed Effect Concentration(LOEC) values expressed in terms of the mean measured concentration were 0.275 mg/L and 0.912 mg/L for average growth rate and yield.

In addition, a toxicity study on microorganism is available.

The test item was tested according to OECD Guideline no 209: Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test. The study was conducted according to GLP. Resulting EC50 = 911 mg/L (30 min), EC20 = 244 mg/L (30 min), EC50 = 641 mg/L (180 min) and EC20=186 mg/L (180 min).
