Description of key information

In an 96-hour static acute test on fish toxicity, which used fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas Rafinesque) in freshwater as test organisms, a NOEC value of 1.2 mg/L was determined ( KS_96 h_P. promelas_1975).

In an 48-hour flow-through test according to OECD TG 202, duplicate groups of 10 daphnids (Daphnia magna Straus) were exposed to mean analysed treatment levels of 0 (standard dilution water control), 0.16, 0.23, 0.53, 1.66, 3.88, and 13.1 mg vinylbenzyl chloride / L water. Based on observed mortality and immobilisation a 48-hour NOEC of 0.23 mg/L was determined, and an 48-hour EC50 value of 0.65 mg/L (95% confidence interval: 0.23 - 1.66 mg/L) was calculated (KS_48 h_D. magna_1996).

A 72-hours static toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria test according to OECD TG 201 has been performed. The green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was exposed in triplicate to target nominal test concentrations of 0 (AAP medium control), 6.25, 12.5, 25.0, 50.0 and 100% of a 1000 mg vinylbenzyl chloride/L (AAP medium) nominally-dosed saturated solution.

Based on observes growth rate inhibition an ErC50 (72h) of 0.489 mg/L and an ErC10 (72h) of 0.364 mg/L was determined (Key_72 h_P. subcapitata_2018).
